Dear Doig Families,
My name is Juan Alvarez, the principal of Doig Intermediate. I want to take this opportunity to introduce our school to you. Our primary goal at Doig is to provide all students with an exceptional educational experience. We have been an AVID Demonstration school for twenty years and last year we were recognized with the Excellence Award for the outstanding work our school has done in implementing AVID strategies school-wide.
In addition to our AVID program, our school is a community school. As a community school, we unite diverse and engaged stakeholders to make the school community stronger and support the Whole Child. We focus on creating a supportive environment for all students and parents.
We also offer a strong VAPA program for students interested in instrumental music, choir, art, and dance. Additionally, our students are supported by a strong after-school tutorial program to help everyone succeed academically. Our two feeder high schools, Santiago High School and Los Amigos High School, have a dual college enrollment program. Doig Intermediate students have the opportunity to be admitted into this program. If accepted, students can graduate with 40 to 60 college credits completed along with their high school diploma at no additional cost to the parent. This is one of the perks of attending Doig Intermediate.
We encourage parent involvement and provide opportunities for parents to participate in their child’s education. We have a variety of opportunities for families to get involved, which include English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), School Site Council (SSC), Doig Family Council, Parent Greeters, and Parent Workshops.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve our community. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share.
Sincerely,
Juan Alvarez
Principal
