Doig becomes a Community School

DOIG INTERMEDIATE EMBARKS ON SECOND YEAR OF TRANSFORMATIVE FIVE-YEAR COMMUNITY SCHOOLS GRANT

Doig Intermediate School is officially celebrating its second year of implementation under a prestigious five-year Community Schools grant, a milestone that is already reshaping the educational landscape for local students and their families.

The multi-year grant, funded through the California Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP), allows Doig Intermediate to transcend the traditional boundaries of a school. By transforming the campus into a centralized community hub, the grant provides the resources necessary to build deeply integrated partnerships between parents, students, staff, and local community organizations.

This grant isn't just about temporary programs; it is about fundamentally changing how we support our youth. It allows us to build a much stronger, permanent partnership with our parents, students, and the broader community so that we can surround every student with the precise academic, physical, and emotional support they need to thrive.

The Community Schools model rests on the belief that students succeed when their families and neighborhoods are actively engaged in the process. At Doig, this has manifested in a dramatic increase in shared decision-making. Through platforms like the Doig Family Council, parents are no longer just spectators, they are active co-designers of the school’s culture, contributing to everything from campus safety initiatives to school-wide cultural celebrations.

As Doig Intermediate moves into the remaining three years of the grant, the school's focus is firmly set on sustainability. Campus leaders are currently working to weave these new community partnerships, extended learning opportunities, and wellness supports directly into the school’s permanent operational budget.

With three years still ahead, the Doig community is well on its way to proving that when schools, families, and communities lock arms, student success is the natural result.
